This is a case for the LCV lead acid battery desulphator unit which is based on an original circuit designed and published by Alastair Couper in the American HomePower magazine in 2000, see http://www.homepower.com/view/?file=HP77_pg84_Couper .
A kit for this unit is available here: http://www.courtiestown.co.uk/index.php/battery-desulphators/kits/12v-lvc-basic-kit.html
A full description of the unit is available here: http://www.courtiestown.co.uk/media/custom/upload/File-1401097440.pdf
I have added a "window" so you can see the LED better. This works well if your PLA is somwhat transparent (most PLAs are).
On the LVC desulphator circuit itself, it really works very well as far as I can tell. For good effect, it really should be left connected to the battery for many days. I have always disconnected it from the car circuit, and added a trickle charger to avoid draining the battery.
