Being new to 3D Printing and due to the scary stories regarding printers catching fire, I decided that while bulding an enclosure for my printer using Ikea Lack Tables, that I wanted to have some sort of safety mechanism.
I'm using Octoprint to control my printer with an OctoPi installation on my Raspberry Pi 3. I'm building in Relay controls using the Octoprint Enclosure Plugin, which I will hopefully tie in an auto power kill to the printer in the event of smoke detection.
There are several versions of the MQ-2 Smoke Sensor available, but most require an additional Analogue to Digital converter. I found the Keyestudio variant that is a slightly larger board but has a dgital out, which can connect directly to a Pi GPIO Pin.
Most of my enclosure has been constructed using 3D Models from Thingiverse which have been made by other people, some I have remixed a little, others have been printed directly. However I couldn't find anything for this sensor so bit the bullet and designed my own - my first model from a blank canvas.
When my enclosure is finished I will publish a link here so that all of the people whose designs have contributed to it can be properly credited.
I worked with dimensions that would allow the board to be a friction fit in the case, and also for the lid to attach in the same fashion, so that no screws are required, apart from mounting the complete assembly.
