I have started my journey into ESP32 devices and sensors, using Home Assistant and ESPhome.
My first project was a temperature/humidity/pressure sensor, packaged into a case with a small display to put in on a shelf or cupboard.

Home Assistant: https://www.home-assistant.io/
Board: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B074RGW2VQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Display: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07FYG8MZN/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sensor: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07FS95JXT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
DISCLAIMER:
the BME280 sensor is self-heating, so you either put it into the compartment and compare the measurements with it outside and substract the difference (should be good enough for measuring room temperatures), use a different sensor that isn't self heating or place the sensor outside of the box (I have cut the slits and routed the cables to the outside as a stopgap solution...)
if you use the ESP32 with pins you will have to bend them inwards to fit the Dupont wires
there is a version of the base without sensor compartment - this is NOT tested!
