Hôtel-palace construit pour Henri Ruhl par les architectes Charles Dalmas, de Nice, et Marcellin Mayère, de Cannes. Comptant 355 chambres ou appartements, il est édifié de 1909 à 1910 et de 1912 à 1913. La façade est revêtue d'un enduit bicolore en fausse pierre, avec un décor moulé en ciment. L'hôtel est partiellement transformé en hôpital durant la Première Guerre mondiale, mais continue à servir d'hôtel durant la Deuxième Guerre. Il est lié au monde du cinéma depuis la création du Festival de Cannes en 1946. Actuellement la propriété du groupe Morgan Stanley, direction par Intercontinental Hotels Group.
