UPDATE NOTICE: 1/20/2016
The 2016 BUTToN GEAR is now available here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1282654
For all of you that have ever needed an extra little incentive to get your Butt in Gear I present the official 2015 BUTToN GEAR! Yes, this is intended to be puny.
It comes in two styles this year... so far: The Functional button that can actually be used on your clothing, and the Token button to simply carry around with you. Stay tuned for more. These are big buttons meant to be seen. Display it on your coat, sweater, shirt, pocket, sleeve, backpack, purse, briefcase, or whatever strikes your fancy.
Update 11/7/15: Here is more http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1117719 An alternate attachment style using two slots instead of four holes. This will allow for easy attachment to additional items like shoe laces, thin straps, hair clips or ribbons.
As this is part of an on going campaign stay tuned for the 2016 versions to come out around the beginning of the year at which time the current files posted here will disappear. Changes may be subtle or dramatic but something will change every year.
NOTICE UPDATE 1/12/2016: I have reconsidered and will leave these old files here after all. Turns out that if I remove them they will disappear from your collections.
For those of you that print this object I invite you to post images of the various methods you come up with to tastefully display it.
The STL files are CURA scaled and ready to print in a 35 mm size. I show in the pictures both the 35 mm and a scaled up 40 mm print of both styles. Use a scale ratio of 1.141 to get the 40 mm size.
The smallest size I have printed and still had readable (barely) is 30 mm.
Here is the challenge: How small can you print this and still have it look good?
Alternate challenge: What's the biggest usable button you can print?
So, what are you waiting for? Get your BUTToN GEAR!
