900+ tons of water must be evaporated to make one ton of lithium products. 70% of the lithium produced comes from the dryest places on the planet. The U.S. produces less than 3% of the annual production. The waste of the water from these water basins could be a ecological disaster for these countries and could take a century or more to recover at the expense of the remaining animals and plants. The U.S. owns very little percentage of these lithium mines.
