Bokeh Lens Cover - Batman by amarand

To quote GlaDOS from Portal:
Well done. Here come the test results: "You are a horrible person." That's what it says: a horrible person. We weren't even testing for that.
So I made this Thing, and it worked really well:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2388614
It fit perfectly on both our Nikon 50mm f1.4, and our Canon 100mm Macro lenses, both with the B+W UV filters. The Canon lens is marked 67mm, and the Nikon lens is marked 58mm. But not everyone likes love. Or hearts. Some people, not mentioning any names, would rather avoid the whole love/heart/Valentine's Day thing altogether! Not me, mind you. I love love! And hearts. I'm a little obsessed with them. But that's why I did the heart first.
Then, my wife said to me: "You know, with Adam West passing away this last week, I'll bet a lot of people are going to be nostalgic for the old Batman TV show from the 60's...."
And so, a new bokeh lens cover was born!
Pulled from the 1966 Batman TV series, this logo is most recognizable by "olds" like me. If you are younger, you probably remember a lot of the other logos. That's okay. If you don't know who Adam West is, just watch some Family Guy. He plays the senile old mayor of Quahog (Mayor Adam West) and even though he was hilarious and played the camp card perfectly in the original Batman series, he's even more funny in Family Guy. I'd say watch them both, regardless of your age.
Now, I'm not going to say you could use this Thing to project a powerful bat symbol into the sky, and summon the Batman himself. It would probably melt at high temperatures. But what you can do is, anything that involves lower temperatures! Like covering your lens, and making bokeh (as shown in the photographs). You could also use it as a classic Batman coffee stencil or, a classic Batman monocle (again, photos).
I recommend printing this in a neutral (white, black, gray) color, as my gut tells me that colors might cause a color cast in your photos. Maybe. I don't know. It's all about light and physics.
So how do you make bokeh? Well, first, grab yourself a lower-focal length lens, like a 25mm, 50mm, or even the 100mm. I think it works best with the 50mm, but the first one I did was with my 100mm, and it worked fine. (That's the orange and blue one shown.)
You then throw the lens out of focus, and open the aperture full wide! If it's an f/1.4 lens, go ahead and go to f/1.4. If it's a f/2.8 lens, open it to f/2.8. You get the picture. As wide as you can! The lower the number, the wider the aperture.
If you have Live Preview or Live View mode on your camera, where you can see the picture on the back LCD before you take the shot, now's a great time to use this feature to tweak the settings just the right way. You may need to get closer or farther away, in order to make the bokeh larger or smaller, to your taste. It's all about art, and fitting things into the frame.
If you want to see how Saturday Night Live did it, here's a link:

If you want to see a picture of my wife saving a baby bird, here's a link:

You can also see my original bokeh cover that I made out of duct tape and cardboard here:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/theamarand/3164779001/
Don't forget to enjoy Father's Day - which is tomorrow (Sunday, 6/18/2017, as of the time of this writing) - watch a little vintage Batman from the 60's, and drink some beer, if you're old enough, and you like beer. Otherwise, drink something else. Water, maybe? It's hot out there!
Lastly, here's a picture of my dog, who wants to drink beer, but she can't because she lacks opposable thumbs, and can't operate the bottle opener:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/theamarand/3622334673
As mentioned in the previous bokeh Thing, if you think you have a lens with a standard UV filter that matches one of the sizes I've mentioned above, there's a very good chance this will "just fit." If you give me the outside diameter (as measured by calipers) in mm, I can make a special version just for you. It should be fairly close. Round DOWN for a tighter fit (67.5mm rounds down to 67mm), but I wouldn't round more than, say, 0.5mm, or it may be too tight. Once we've published your version, we can name it based on the lens, model, make, size in mm, and focal length - and can include your username if you'd like.
The absolute best way to work with me on a custom-fit bokeh lens cover is to download one that's close to your lens, print it, and use the I Made One facility to post a picture. Then in that "Make," share the details, sketches, specs and pictures, and we'll go back and forth until you get a cover that fits your lens well.
If you post a Make, I'm instantly notified, and if you post a comment in that Make, I'm also notified. So that's a good place to start!
Any questions, please post a comment! Oh, and I will also take suggestions on bokeh openings, so if you find something you'd like to turn into a bokeh hole, let me know!
