This is a simpler way to install filters, as pioneered by the folks at the Billings Clinic in Montana.https://www.billingsclinic.com/foundation/3d-printed-surgical-mask/
I simply took their file and scaled it to fit the COVID-19 Mask.
The simplicity makes it easier to use a thin filter or cloth without having to hope that the front plate stays attached.
The intent is that one surgical mask can be cut into multiple squares to provide more than one use, but note that an air filter can be disassembled to work as well.
Consult the MERV Rating of an air filter before making your choice, as there is quite a bit of variability. MERV 13 to 16 are rated for .3-1.0 micron particles.https://www.grainger.com/know-how/equipment-information/kh-what-is-merv-rating-air-filter-rating-chart
I can speak from personal experience that a HEPA-rated air filter or a HEPA vacuum bag are probably too hard to breathe through to be effective.
