I've always been a strong believer in robot rights, specifically that all robots have the right to Bear Arms! Simply existing as an armless biped is simply Un-bearable and i figure entering this challenge is the bear minimum i can do to correct this deficiency!
This project is a set of torso servo mounts and lovably cute Bear arms for your Chip-E robot. They are designed to insert in between the lower battery compartment and the plate that the head mounts to. They use a pair of the same servos the legs mount to, and are affixed to the chassis in the same manner. The arms are designed to screw onto the servo horns, though i do not have a set of those horns to test with, so some adjustment and or drilling of a center hole may be required. I simply imported the base STL files for the Chip-e, then extruded a set of mid sections, with an aim that they be fully 3d printable without support. Using the dimensions from the leg mount, i was able to copy that geometry and provide adequate space for a pair of servos. Future expansion potential exists for adding a 3rd rotational head servo.
Assembly:
To use these parts, print them out and then insert them into your Chip E robot using the stock hardware mount to the battery compartment, and some sort of M3 bolts to go from the center section into the upper plate and standoffs. I recommend either gluing or taping the bolts in place for that. The sevos feed in from the back. THen plug the servos in and make them do stuff. As I don't actually have one of these robots yet, I'm unsure of the details of the programming required.
New abilities and skills this modification confers:
Bear Hugs
ability to wave your hands in the air like you just don't care
show attendance in school
ask questions and or volunteer for things.
flip off traffic (note - flippoffarm.stl was deemed too powerful for use by mere mortal robots and has been omitted from this project)
show excitement on roller coasters
fencing and other acts of swordsmanship
The ability to bear arms with bear arms, which are also bare arms, unless they were bearing weapons then they would only barely be bare.
Theoretical ability to stir things and eat soup
ability to play the piano (note, talent to play the piano not included)
the ability to take the arms off and hide them while entering some illicit location where arms are not allowed (Arms smuggling)
pro football career
that fight move where you spin your arms around a whole bunch and hope the bad guy goes away
golfing!
And many more! (also the ability to later mount additional microservos and make an arm that has articulation and whatnot. )
