Here's my first design for the Multi-Function Reader challenge by Blackboard Transact: https://grabcad.com/challenges/the-multi-function-reader-design-challenge

! CONCEPT !
-------------------
The main core unit by default includes the Display, Stand, Base, Side Modules (Mag Stripe reader and 'filler' Bin), and contactless/rfID reader as a front module.

DISPLAY:
This unit is ~7"w x 5"h with Screen that's 6"w x 4"h (~7" diagonal). It has an integrated Camera at the top, facing the customer. The Display unit attaches to the Stand with hinge allowing it to tilt up & down, with angle restriction possible.

STAND:
Attaches Display unit to the Base. Along with tilt motion, the Stand allows Display to swivel around 360 degrees by way of how it attaches to Base.

BASE:
This houses the Side Modules (card reader + bin or add-on options), Contactless credential reader (front module), RJ45 and USB ports, and Speaker. It can mount on a counter-top surface or on a wall. The ports area is designed so when unit's mounted on wall, cables will neatly exit horizontally rather than connectors sticking up... There could be small holes in back and front of base that allow cables to be fed through its interior from port area then out the front (which would be bottom in wall-mount situation). This way cables wouldn't interfere with slide-out modules.

SIDE MODULES:
In the primary BB Transact configuration, these would include the Mag Stripe card reader and a Bin that pens or small items can be put in. The bin is there as filler when no other extensions are added (like a computer's filler panel but more useful). When the person/company wants to add on extensions such as a receipt printer or braille keypad then the add-on can replace the bin in a side slot, or be standalone.

The idea is that these side modules/cartridges essentially use the same exterior molded shape rather than separate designs. Possibility: two-part design where all bottoms are same and tops snap on, since they can differ slightly whether for card swipe, receipt print, braille keypad, etc.

Each Side Module has a groove at the bottom where it can slide on and off a notch on the Base. If needed because of wall-mount option, it could also have a small clip- or snap-action incorporated so one has to pull harder or press the clip to release before sliding.

RFID READER (radio-frequency identification; contactless):
This would attach to the front of the Base with small clips for snap action and easy removal. It can be placed away from the core unit, set on counter-top for example, or on top of Mag Stripe reader.

ADD-ON OPTIONS/EXTENSIONS:
Aside from the extensions mentioned above for Side Modules, other add-ons can be integrated to the Display or Base units such as Micro SD card slot, Motion sensor, second Camera, Microphone, etc.

- I have the Micro SD slot placed at the underside of Display unit, where it's not blatantly visible but is easily accessed/used.
- I put the Motion Sensor on the top/back edge of the Base. It's positioned at an angle - so it can operate properly whether core unit is mounted on horizontal or vertical surface.
- If another Camera is added I imagine it being opposite the existing one at top of Display (not modeled).

Note: Two of my renderings use a pen 3D model that was created by Mark Hedron: https://grabcad.com/library/pen--3
