An British early Bronze Age battle-axe manufactured by the infamous forger Flint Jack on 17th December 1868. Weight: 533g. Dimensions: L:128.2mm, B:56.1mm, T:73mm
Flint Jack (aka Edward Simpson 1815-c.1875) was known by many other aliases, including ‘Bones’, ‘Snake Billy’, ‘Fossil Willie’ and ‘Shirtless’. He is particularly well known for forging flint tools, but also made ‘prehistoric’ pottery, a ‘Roman’ breast plate, a ‘Roman’ milestone and intaglios. His forgeries were revealed in 1859 and he gained notoriety by demonstrating flint knapping to the Geological Society in 1862.
Flint Jack was an endearing itinerant, travelling Britain selling what he made. He had a problem with drink and petty theft landed him in prison on several occasions. - Battle axe made by Flint Jack, 1868 - Buy Royalty Free 3D model by Dr Hugo Anderson-Whymark (@hugoandersonwhymark) [7c7e869]
