An absolute must have file for any 3D Printer enthusiast!
Although basic in nature, this model of a cube can be very useful when checking the alignment of your 3D Printer past what you can see with the naked eye.
For any makers or hobbyists out there that design, or are learning to design their own parts for their projects, knowing the accuaracy, or tolerance, or your 3D printer is critical for more complex projects. It is common knowledge that commercial desktop 3D Printers are not always as accurate as they can be. Knowing how much oversized or undersized a part will end up being can be very helpful when designing parts that need to fit together.
Simply orient this model to align with the X, Y, and Y axis of your slicer program(or say if the x-axis is coming out of the screen, you should be seeing the "Z" face of the block in that same orientation). Then print this block and use calipers to measure how close the dimensions are to 1in. With this block, you can easily see what tolerance your printer is at, and if that is differenct for the three seperate axis.
In my case, both the X-axis, and the Y-axis both showed and average deviation of 0.075in over 1in. Using this information, if I needed to make a 1in part fit in an 1in slot, I might undersize it by twice the amount to account for both of the parts.
