The base has room for an APM ground station telemetry radio with USB adapter and an antenna extending from the corner. It also has loops for straps so that it can be readily carried in a convenient position.

The Otter box is in no way crucial for the concept, and I believe it should be a reasonable effort to convert the OpenScad design for use with a bare tablet instead, or indeed for other Android tablets.
