The main motivation for wanting this is that if the counter gets wet, the moisture can get into the can and cause caking. The bottom cover blocks this and the top cover prevents splashes from causing the same problem.
For the remix, I used a chamfer around the bottom edge instead of a fillet so no supports are needed. I also had one can of cleaner where the bottom fit tightly and another one where it would fall off, so I added a latch that presses against the can. I also angled the rifling just because I thought it looked cooler.
Per amarand's description in the original, I haven't had any trouble with the cleanser bursting into flames!
