Developments of the Blue Steel were proposed to arm the Type-730 M=3.5 bomber. Most featured ram-jet propulsion in a bid for greater range and performance. One of the studies in the 'what in the hell are you cone-heads thinking?' category was Z-95. This was similar to the Vought PLUTO in concept: a dooms-day machine. Powered by a direct cycle nuclear ram-jet, these weapons would cruise at 500 ft/M=3.5; tossing megaton warheads, spewing lethal radiation and trailing a fatal sonic-boom. Dr Strangelove would have been out of his chair doing a schuhplattler. No idea is this was to be air launched, as the Blue Steel Mk.III name suggests, or if this was to be ground based.
