Automata 1
A small base for making miniature automata out of paper - a starting point for creativity - a quick print and an easy project.

During this month of Makevember, I saw the excellent automata made by @wolfCatWorkshop out of scrap wood, paperclips and paper. I decided to try to make a simple base for making my own automata in a similar fashion.
Additional things you will need:
A 1.5cm wide strip of paper (the model has a 1.5cm slot to hold the paper)
Scissors to cut the paper
A paperclip
A pair of pliers to bend the paperclip
Instructions:
Cut the paper into a shape you'd like to animate
Bend the paperclip into a shape that allows the animation you'd like
Insert the bent paperclip into the model (long end, then short end)
Bend the 'crank' into the paperclip
Connect the paper to the crank, either directly or through paper linkages (In this one, I connected it directly with glue)
Turn the crank and enjoy your automata!
These are small and easy to print - it would be a fun group art activity!
