Hello! For my senior project, I have designed devices to assist people in playing musical instruments. As seen in the attached pictures, the device has a modular base, which allows it to be paired with interchangeable drumstick, xylophone mallet, or guitar pick holders. The device straps onto the user's forearm, which will ultimately assist people with limited grasping ability in their hands to experience the power of playing a musical instrument.
General info:
Extra Materials:
M5 Screws
-- 2 M5 Screws (12 mm in length) for base/plate of device to connect with holders
-- 1 M5 Screw (12 mm in length) for drumstick and xylophone mallet holders to act as a set screw
-- 1 M5 Screw (16 mm in length) for guitar pick holder to act as a set screw
M5-0.8 Hex Nuts
--2 Hex Nuts per base/plate
--1 Hex Nut for holders
Velcro: 0.75 in. or 19.05 mm wide straps (2 per device)
There are 3 sizes of the device available from the files above. The size is determined by the width of the middle of the user's forearm laid on a flat surface.
Small Plate for Prosthetic (Small Size): 4.32 cm or less (1.7 in. or less)
Plate for Prosthetic with Fillet (Medium Size): 6.35 cm or less (2.5 in. or less)
Large Plate for Prosthetic (Large Size): 7.62 cm or less (3 in. or less)
-- All of the designs include a fillet; these are just the names that correspond with the given files.
There are also three types of drumstick holders. There is a standard size chart for drumsticks, and the specific size should be labeled on most brand name sticks. However, you can just measure the diameter of your drumstick to find out which drumstick holder best suits your own.
New 0.59 inch Drumstick Holder (0.59 in or 1.5 cm in diameter): Fits sizes 5A and 7A
New 0.63 inch Drumstick Holder (0.63 in or 1.6 cm in diameter): Fits sizes 1A, 3A, 5B
New 0.68 inch Drumstick Holder (0.68 in or 1.7 cm in diameter): Fits sizes 2B, Rock
The Xylophone Mallet Holder will hold any mallet that doesn't have a diameter over 0.5 inches or 1.27 centimeters.
The Guitar Pick Holder will hold most standard guitar picks.
Total Time for Completion:
Drumstick and Xylophone Mallet Holders: Around 1.5 hours
Guitar Pick Holder: Around 1.5 Hours
Small Plate for Prosthetic: Around 2.5 hours
Plate for Prosthetic with Fillet: Around 3 hours
Large Plate for Prosthetic: Around 3.5 hours
PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS: All of these files require a M5-0.8 hex nut to the be inserted into the design at a specific time during the print. See print settings below for details.
