Like my board for the Nucleo MBED's or the Arduino Uno form factor boards, this one is designed for the Arduino Mega form factor boards. All of these boards are designed to use interchangeable panels that house displays, rotory encoders, switches, etc... Basically to allow prototyping, while keeping the prototype reasonably portable.
NOTE: I use small brass threaded inserts (3mm) to provide attachment points for both the Nucleo board as well as having the ability to attach a panel at the rear of the breadboard assembly to hold project specific things like potentiometers, banana jacks, etc...
