I figured that since this was not a heavy spring that we are installing, why worry about it having to be metal. I plan on making a pair of these in PLA soon.
there are lots of videos out there on how to use these... but the short version is thus...
insert one through the pin retaining flanges.
align it so that the hole is allowing you to put the spring and the detent through it and into place.
then using the smaller end, drive the detent in far enough that you can rotate the assembly.
align the pivot pin and drive it in, allowing the tool to slide out at the same time. this will allow the detent to catch on the hidden flat part of the pivot pin and waa-laa... done.
be aware that the detent will eventually wear on the tools, but if you are doing enough assemblies to worry about that... consider getting some good steel ones and be done. this is more intended for hobbiests that are just doing... I would guess a dozen or less.
