Inspired by stories how amazing direct drives could be I decided to remake my i3 Mega-S ('S' is very important here, latelly you will understand why)
I went across lots of amazing projects and even printed one based on Philipp's guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTHwI-nV38U and Pablo's designshttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2803350https://www.thingiverse.com/pablogk95
By the way, really nice work, thanks a lot!
It was my assumption that all parts on Mega and Mega-S are the same, well, wrong assumption. Problem was with the belt/cooler holder from the original designs - the linear bearing holders have ribs, so you could not place printed cooler holder there without any modifications (in the design or with 'tools'). Unfortunately, I printed it first and only after realized that it would not fit.
Ok, no problem, dremel helped and I assembled everything. Glory lasts for not to long - another problem appeared - cooler is too low, so when head goes to 'home' it bumps bed holder...
So playing all around with all these things I decided to completely redrew all the parts from the scratch
A few words regarding:
Motor holder > this part has lots of interesting things:
-embedded PCB holder
-cable mount with a hole for zip
-horizontal cooler alignment holes
-spare holes for something (BLTouch, Leds, sensors,...)
-reinforced walls
-additional mount point for hotend (hotend fan has an additional screw). This part is very important because during movements (with big speed/innertion) motor and hotend had small loose in the horizontal plane because theirs mass and innertion is enough to bend the plastic holder
-fancy design of course
Cooler > found really nice ones https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1090433 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2850837, but it will be lot of work to change them to fit into my design, so, inspired by theirs designs I created my own one. It was printed with support btw
Filament holder > two holes in the stand and one hole is require to place it on the top
Limit switch stays at its original location, only one thing is need to move it a bit to the front - two M3 hex brass spacers. I placed 12mm but it looks like 6mm is enough to start with
Hardware parts needed:
1 x Titan Aerohttps://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000008905489.html
1 x Turbine 5015 12V
1 x Fan 4010 12Vhttps://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000465375500.html
Jacks to extend extruder's motor cable
1 x male PH2.0 JST 6pin
1 x female PH2.0 JST 6pin
Two M3 brass hex spacers to move the limit switch
Two M4 bolts (at least 28mm long)
This design includes holders for both original Titan Aero ('genuine' in the file name) and one from Aliexpress ('Ali' in the file name). I have no original one to play with, therefore its design is based on stl I found in the Internet
M428 for home offset
PS: this design PROBABLY will fit on regular Mega (not S), but that is only my assumption
UPDATE:
Cooler-Titan-Aero-Ali-v.0.5.stl got vertical alignmets
Motor-Holder-Titan-Aero-Ali-v.0.5.stl PCB moved to the right to loose wires a bit
