I found it to be a pain in the patootie to get the filament to slide into the filament sensor and out the other side. Usually had to pull it off and fuss with it. So I made this little do-dad that inserts into the open slot to give the filament a nice straight path up to the roller. Since the hole for the filament is only 3mm I recommend printing this at .1mm, 100% infill, highest quality setting.
I also made a couple different attachments to route the filament into the guide depending on where your spool is. I like the funnel best.
The photo shows the filament being fed from behind but that's because I turned the printer to take the photo. I normally have the spool on a shelf to the right of the printer. It feeds great from both locations. There is a bit of added resistance but I don't see any problems with my prints so far.
This is made to go with the filament sensor holder I made:https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2443027
