Amref Health Africa (African Medical and Research Foundation) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1957 and still active that aims to improve health in Africa through the active involvement of local communities. The organization mainly relies on African personnel (around 97%) and allocates most of its resources to the training of local medical personnel. Amref is active in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan and is currently the largest non-profit medical organization on the African continent. The most famous service among those carried out by Amref is that of the Flying Doctors, airborne medical personnel who bring their assistance to the most remote and inaccessible areas of Africa. Amref's Italian division, Amref Italia, was founded in 1987; since 2007 it is part of AGIRE. #amref #flag
