Built in 1682, the Market Hall was given to Amersham by the Drake family. However, the clock and bell were added later on to call the fire services when needed and on Tuesdays at noon to mark the weekly markets. A clock facing The Weller Brewery (on Church Street) was removed from the tower after workers kept leaving to check the time. There are many traditional features still kept in the building, for example, the old pump at the front and the cell at the entrance that held the local criminals or drunks. Today, the second floor of the building is used to hold meetings or social gatherings and will always be seen as a piece of heritage to the people of Amersham.
