1945-1959: FLAGSHIP LIGHTNING BOLT Postwar in 1948, the new Convair CV-240 joined the fleet American Airlines. This was the first aircraft with a pressurized 40-seat cabin and superior performance for load capacity and range. Beginning with the Model 240 offered passengers faster schedules and smoother flights in pressurized comfort. American Airlines was the launch customer and had considerable influence in its design. With the occasion of the new aircraft in the fleet, the Company updated their logo, enlarging it, the Eagle sat at the rear fuselage with 2 As either side of it and was pierced by the lightning bolt (red-orange outlined in blue) that ran forward to the nosecone where it expanded and had AMERICAN text within it in black. Titles read as 'AMERICAN AIRLINES' on the fuselage with 'AMERICAN' low on the tail. The rudder was partially painted white and the same orange red as the lightning bolt. Each aircraft wore a Flagship name forward.
