The AK-47 (Russian: Avatomat Kalashnikova) was designed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. While recovering from wounds in a field hospital during the Battle of Bryansk during World War II, Kalashnikov designed what was at first to be a submachine gun, but later turned into an assault rifle. The AK-47 was the second assault rifle ever developed, after the German Sturmgewehr 44. The final production version was developed in 1947, and was officially adopted by the Red Army in 1949. The rifle was chambered in the 7.62x39 intermediate round and had selective-fire capability. The internal mechanisms are widely known for their simplicity and reliability. The AK-47 has spawned several variants, which include the AKS, AKM, RPK, AK-74, AK-74u, AK-74m, AK-103, AK-105, AN-94, and Saiga shotgun. Due to the rifle's simplicity and former Soviet influence around the world, the AK-47 and it variants have been used by many militaries and insurgent groups worldwide. #1947 #47 #762 #762x39 #ak #ak103 #ak105 #ak47 #ak74m #ak74m_ak74u #akm #aks #an94 #assault_rifle #battle_of_bryansk #german #gun #insurgent #kalashnikov #mikhail_kalashnikov #rifle #rpk #russian #saiga_shotgun #smg #soviet #stg_44 #terrorist #world_war_2
