This is a demonstration of Modeling with OpenSCAD, moving to FreeCAD and exporting the STL.
OpenSCAD can export printable STLs, however, it's requirements are more stringent. It requires the object to be rendered. OpenSCAD renders can be time consuming. FreeCAD has a very capable STL exporter that will produce fully manifold objects without any tinkering or waiting for render.
This process flow basically:
Design 3D Model in OpenSCAD
Copy OpenSCAD code using FreeCAD's OpenSCAD Workbench "Add OpenSCAD Element"
Select what you want to export
Use File/Export to create stl.
I have created a video of this process at : OpenSCADtoFreeCAD
