A severed head, Nye Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, Denmark). Mad with Memento Beta (now ReMake) from AutoDesk.
Fabulous beasts continued to be used as symbols in allegorical representations of death. Sometimes they would appear in particularly dramatic scenes such as a griffin´s claws grabbing a severed head with dead eyes and an open mouth. Was this to take a slain warrior to the realm of the dead or to strike terror into the living and warn them of what awaited them? The sculpture was set up by a tomb, and the remaining blood-red remnants of paints the dramatic event to life. (text from Nye Carlsberg Glyptotek).
