Made with Autodesk Inventor 2014 as a Dynamic simulation. The action is due to the gravitation force only.

A letter scale is a weighing scale used for weighing letters in order to determine the correct amount of postage (wikipedia.org). Here you have an old-fashion letter scale used before 1990; it was made based from pictures on Internet. Not a real letter scale was used to model its components so that some aspects could be slightly different from reality.

Considering its construction, the letter scale has two ranges of measurement: 0 - 250g and 0 - 50g. You can change the range using the „reversing lever” from down to up. For the range 0 - 50g a red color is visible when the reversing lever is in proper position. Here is the clip for weighing a 250g etalon (gauge) weight. To see the clip for weighing a 50g etalon (gauge) weight see https://youtu.be/s5JthCmvDJ4

As usual, if you work with Inventor you will find all the .iam and .ipt files so you can download them to enter Environments / Dynamic simulation and see for yourself what's happening. You have two variant of the letter scale: „Vintage letter scale - 50g.iam” and „Vintage letter scale - 250g.iam”. The first one has the reversing lever in up position, and the second one in down position.

Enjoy!
