The Smart Joysticks are a significant improvement upon the design of the Xbox One controller joysticks. This 3D-printable model solves several major issues with the original controller joysticks, and can be installed with the help of a simple Torx-head screwdriver.
The first improvement that the Smart Joysticks offer is adjustability. Once the base of the joystick is installed in the controller, the top thumb-pieces can be interchanged with a simple twist-on/off thread. This allows the user to swap out joysticks of different heights, shapes, and colors. Different gamers have different preferences of joystick height and type of grip; the Smart Joysticks allow users to choose the perfect joystick for various players and situations. The adjustable joystick also allows for aesthetic customization by swapping out different colors.
The second benefit of Smart Joysticks is that they are extremely easy to fix or replace. Many Xbox users have dealt with the frustrating problem of a broken joystick; Smart Joysticks offer an easy fix because a new one can simply be 3D printed. Compared to buying replacement joysticks or buying a whole new controller, this option is extremely significant; it demonstrates the usefulness of 3D printing technology. Smart Joysticks make joystick breaks easier and cheaper to fix.
Smart Joysticks can also help prevent joystick damage. The third problem that Smart Joysticks address involves transportation; many Xbox owners will transport their console, whether it be to a hotel, a friend’s house, or somewhere else. During this process it is a hassle to protect the controller as well as the console; throwing a controller carelessly into a bag could result in a broken joystick because they stick up above the face of the controller. Smart Joysticks greatly reduce this risk because the top half of the joystick can be removed. By unscrewing the thumb sticks, an Xbox controller with Smart Joysticks is much safer to store or transport.

I 3D printed this design several times with FDM printing on my Monoprice Select Mini 3D Printer.
I used PLA filament, and it prints very well with supports and .1mm layer height. I personally use the Smart Joysticks on my own controller.
Note: When installing the base piece, I recommend adding a small dot of hot glue in the hole so that it sticks to the joystick component more sturdily.
I am not affiliated with Xbox or Microsoft.
