The ladder can be greatly improved for better safety, usability, and function. This new ladder will be will have several features a normal ladder does not. First, it will have steel pipes/stakes that secure the ladder to the ground while the user climbs it. They can be small stakes or larger ones, depending on the length and environment of the ladder (industrial or home use). The larger stakes will be put into the ground by either a hammer or a crank attached to the ladder base. This feature would greatly improve the safety of the ladder. Instead of having rungs, the ladder will just be two poles, attached every 5 or so feet to keep them (the main poles) parallel. Instead of using rungs to climb, the user will securely strap their feet into two feet holders. These holders will be attached to the two poles of the ladder. These holders will also be able to swivel backwards, so if the user ends up falling, they will not break their ankles. When the user wants to climb they simply grab one of the vertical handles, raise one foot, and step down. The ratchet mechanism inside the two polls will hold the user's foot there, so they can raise their other foot and the two handles (handles also have ratcheting mechanism). There also is a tether that follows up the user, so if they fall backward the tether will keep them in place. When the user wants to come down the can hold both levers on the handles, giving them a smooth descent. By implementing this system, we make large ladders much faster, safer to climb, and easier to work off in large industrial environments, or just at home. As you can have two hands off at any time and you don’t have to worry about falling.
