Blackboard Door Reader Concept 2

This is a more robust version of my first submitted design:

Housing -
The housing is constructed with straight-pull molding in mind; two halves that join to a common parting line. The mag stripe opening is located on the parting line. It is also deeper which provides room for an innovative translucent sliding door. The door allows either the pin pad or the contactless reader to be used but only one at a time. Since students are mainly card users and security personnel are mainly pin pad users it makes sense to expose only what the user finds more important.

Security -
The sliding door is tinted and frosted plastic to serve as protection against weather/sunlight and vandalism.

Keys -
The keys are back-lit only on this version. I decided to eliminate lights like I had on my first submitted design due to the sliding door being in the way. Again they are concave to aid the visually impaired with feeling where each button is.

Lights -
The LED light pipe on the contactless area serves as the status indicator for all types of use of the reader. Red for no entry, green for entry and blue for standby. The key lights may also follow the color changing modes.

Mounting -
Two key holes in the back provide a simple to understand and easy way to hang the unit on a wall or narrow door molding.
