I used to love the RC cars from Children's Palace and Toys R Us when I was a kid, and as a young adult and as an old man. It seemed to be a good project to use to learn about Fusion 360 and how to use my new 3D printer.
This is my attempt at recreating the same sort of car that I cut lawns for money to buy in the 80's. It is almost entirely 3D printed parts. It works well overall, I think the tires aren't as grippy as non 3D printed parts and I believe I have too much power in it.
I've divided the parts into sections and put the various sections into zip files. The body.stl file is also included in the body.zip file.
Needed to complete:
Electronics:
RC radio and receiver
20mm motor, 16mm mounting holes
Electronic speed control
Mini servo
Battery – compartment is small, check size
Antenna tube
Mechanical:
Losi Mini 8ight spur gear 62 tooth Part LOSB1922
48p or .5mod pinion 13t or smaller appropriate for your motor
RC body pin/clip
4 – 6x10x3mm bearings for gearbox
4 – 3x6x2.5mm bearings for front wheels
1.4mm music wire for tie rods and drive axle pin
3 - suspension springs – I used Part 88018 from Menards 1 for each front and 1 split in half for rear.
2 – 3x25mm screws for rear axle – goes through bearings to strengthen axle
Assorted other 3mm, 2.5mm, 2mm and 1.5mm screws
