I printed and installed the Tevo Black Widow cooling ducts by admodesi: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2251893
I am still not sure his ring duct is better than the “fang” style I designed several months ago, but it seems to be working well so far. The problem was that the 40mm axial fan was really noisy. I tried using several of my most powerful 40x20mm fans because I sometimes want maximum cooling, but they all made more noise than I prefer.
So, I drew up an adapter so I could use a 75mmx30mm radial cooling fan like this one:
uxcell 75mm x 30mm 24V DC Blower Cooling Fan
I bought mine from Amazon for eleven and a half dollars.
My design was inspired by the design drawn by lorenzostanzani01 but it uses a different mounting system, has some internal streamlining components, fits the fan better, and can be printed without support while using less material.https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2819127
Because admodesi’s duct has a sophisticated splitter/diffuser just downstream of the fan, I decided to add a dome shaped fitting to match up with his splitter/diffuser and streamline the airflow.
This fan is extremely quiet and very powerful. I get a thermal runaway under some conditions at 100 percent, but I find that adjusting the maximum fan speed in Cura to 70% or 80% and specifying maximum fan speed at layer 8 works quite well.
This adapter doesn’t require any support but you could print with support and perhaps get a slightly cleaner exterior surface; suit yourself. I prefer to attach the fan to the support arm with a small tie wrap rather than a bolt.
I suspect this duct adaptor could be used to connect a 75x30 radial fan to any 40mm axial fan duct. If your duct doesn’t have any structure downstream of the radial fan, you might want to cut away the dome and supports inside the outlet of this adaptor.
