Historical name of this building is the 'Kincardine Post Office and Customs House' Notes quoted and/or paraphrased from historical document. Kincardine's earliest post office was set up in a log cabin at the mouth of the river which flows into Lake Huron. This was followed by various locations on Queen Street, the principal one being at #789 Queen St. In 1907, Mr. Nicholson of Wingham erected the red brick building on the corner of Queen St. and Market Square North. First postmaster here was George D. Morrison. M.J. MacPherson conducted the customs office located here. Rural mail delivery was established in 1913. Stage delivery, the old stand-by for many years, came to an end in 1914. In 1977, the stately old structure was deemed inadequate for the town's expanding population so a new building was erected at 261 Durham St. at a cost of $160,000. Since closing it has been the offices for Kincardine Police Service, Buildign Inspector, Bruce County Health Unit, F.M. 102 Beureau Office, Grey Bruce Georgian Adult Learning Centres, Community Police Office, Kincardine Chamber of Commerce and Kincardine News. Special Thanks to 'Ontario Rural Routes' for all photos required to model and texture this building. http://www.ruralroutes.com/ #Kincardine #Office #Police #Post
