I wanted something unique to go with the shelf brackets I made.https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2743913
Since my printer is not 24" long, I had to come up with something that I can print a little at a time and put them together. Something modular...
I came up with this. These are really simple square tiles that have dovetail joints built into them so you can slide a dovetail into them to hold them in place.
You will need excellent printer adhesion to make these since they are quite large and have a huge surface area where they are touching the build plate.
As for the dovetail inserts, they are designed tight. Once they go in, you may need pliers to remove them. Also, keep in mind that different brand materials will shrink a little differently between brands and types. What prints well for me, may be slightly off for you, so you may need to tweak the scale of the dovetails slightly to get them to fit snug.
I made a few different versions of the tile to give maximum flexibility on how to use them.
Note - These are made from 3D printed plastic. They are not meant to be used for heavy things like books. These are just meant to hold small objects such as displaying the cool 3D things you've printed out.
Also note, I'm still working on adding to this. I'll be making a rail for the front which should help make it even more sturdy and might even design a truss bottom for the dovetails... but I can only draw so fast in my spare time.. lol
