One of the most difficult things for me to do when I was building my first 4x4x4 LED cube was to get the LED cube itself straight and square. The fundamental requirement to do this is to have a perfectly squared and evenly distributed template. I don't know about you, but sucked at it. Not only do you have to get the drill bit perfectly centered in the extact place, but the drill bit cannot shift when drilling and the drill bit has to be perfectly perpendicular to the base. Call me clumsy, hell that's why I bought me a 3D printer :D
This template is based on Chr's great Instructable for 4x4x4 and 8x8x8 cubes! Go there and build one! You won't regret it!
Also, to do this, I had to jump in and learn OpenSCAD. Amazingly, it took me some 4-6 hours before I could do this model. It's, hands down, the best and easiest 3D modeling software there is! I'm a fan now.
