We created a community 3D extravcellular vesicle to help represent the work we do. Sometimes it is just easier to have something to point at whenyou are explaining high level nano-bio-science.
To accompany the various molecules we have brought together to form the 3D vesicle, we have also included handouts which briefly introduce the molecules.
The vesicle model prints nicely on an FDM printer, however the lipid details in the membrane are farily thin and delicate. All parts were successfully printed on an entry level FDM printer using cura to slice. Be aware that due to the detail level it is useful to print using rafts to a level surface to begin printing from.
If resizing, remember to scale all the subsequent parts!
To make this:
Print 1 base: All the rings and proteins are designed to mount onto this.
Choose your molecules of interest, we currently have the following:
IntegrinsTetraspanninsMHC-1HSPG/BetaglycansICAM-1Aquaporins
Each of the files is labelled with the molecules name so it is easy to choose the one you are interested in.
