Can we put 3D printer and 3D scanner all into one like printer?
Hello everyone. David-3d is a kind of 3D laser scanning software and hardware with good quality and low price. But manual scanning could bring tiredness and bad results; projector is too expensive and heavy; and the PCB circuit board of the stepping motor is difficult to make. Therefore I think of driving the laser transmitter by 3D printer itself.
Most of the friends in this forum have 3D printer by official or unofficial replicator, so I use its Z axis lever. Different from the traditional scanning method, the camera and the scanned object move up and down, while the laser transmitter stays still. Actually they have the same principle.

Please buy laser transmitters with the diameters of less than 15mm. there is screw hole on the holder for installing the camera. Please open replicatorG software to control the Z axis. I also design a square tray to put the scanned object. Your 3D printer and 3D scanner will be combined after assembly. The scannable size can be adjusted, mainly for small items.
Hardware I use:
3D printer:
unofficial replicator: migcecuble
Camera:
Logitech 5 mega-pixel smartTV camera/Logitech PRO9000 web camera (all $40 ebay)
Laser:
5mw 650nm red light laser/5mw 405nm blue laser transmitter with the diameter of 12mm ($25 ebay)
software I use:
david3d scanner 3.91 freeversion/paidversion www.david-3d.com
PS:
Actually the principle is suit for all 3D printers, like ultimaker;makerbotR2;Reprap and so on, only by adjusting the components size. This suite will not be improved. Hope you can make it better using your wisdom. Please leave a message if you have any question. Thank you.
