Having recently finished building our new Cultivate3D Beast 3D printer I was unhappy with the flat acrylic spool holders as the sharp edges were grinding the inside of the filament spool and there's no tip on them to prevent the spool from working its way off. All of the spool holders I found on Thingiverse were designed to mount on a horizontal piece of 3030 extrusion, and the one holder I found for a vertical piece had a 90-degree angle in it which would increase the dimensions of the printer such that it wouldn't fit the custom enclosure we built.
In order to fulfill our need for a straight 3030 extrusion-mounted spool holder I put together this basic model in Tinkercad. It should handle most spools except for those with a tiny center hole (like the spools designed to go inside the Flashforge printers) and mounts to the 3030 extrusion using an M5 screw and T-nut.
Model should not require supports, however you'll want to print it with a decent amount of infill in order to prevent heavy spools from breaking the holder. Thanks for checking out my first shared design and if you need one printed please don't hesitate to contact us at www.access3dservices.com!
