This is a 3 Speed Manual Transmission designed 100% myself for a final project for a 3D printing class. This was printed as a fully assembled working piece, and it required no assembly, fasteners, sanding, or post-processing of any kind.
The only post processing required is a bath on solvent to get rid of support material. Printed with shafts oriented vertically in order to accommodate for shaft clearances. See print settings.
This is simply a demonstration model. Obviously, transmissions in cars have constant-mesh gears. However this is simply to demonstrate the concept of gear ratios and to demonstrate how an assembly can be printed in place as a working assembly.
I have not yet tried printing with break away supports. if anyone does, let me know how it goes.
