This allows for removing a spa pump for maintenance without having to fully drain the spa.
The spa industry calls these 2" fittings, however they are actually 3.09" outer diameter. They use custom 45 degree buttress threads at 8 tpi as shown in the attached graphic (best I could tell, though similar to ANSI 45/7 threads, they are not exactly the same).
