The Type V was MSX's first mid engined car, released in 1974 to celebrate MSX's 25th anneversary. It was their first car with independent rear suspension a transaxle gearbox, and at AU$12,500, it was also the most expensive car MSX had ever produced at the time. It's 5.9L V8 was borrowed from the 1971 Taipan GTXR, and was tuned to produce 410hp, which meant that the 1150kg Type V was very fast. For a 1970s car, it handled very well and offered driver involvement that today's supercars can't match. It is however, very hard to live with, it does have a boot, but only a small one, big enough for a couple of overnight bags, there's no roof at all, so if it rains you can't drive it, and while the scissor doors have locks, it's not hard to steal. This is why some MSX enthusiasts didn't like it it 1974, and argued that it's not a proper MSX, because unlike Types I-IV, you couldn't use it every day, the Type III (1954-62) even had 4 seats, but the Type V showed that MSX was capable of producing an uncompromised sports car, which today is highly valued.
