The Ford GT40 Mk2 (GT stands for Gran Tourismo) did win the "24 Hours of Le Mans" four times in a row. The original reason for the development was kind of a revenge of Henry Ford II on Enzo Ferrari for breaking up the negotiations for the sale of Ferrari to Ford.
Using a desktop cnc-machine by Stepcraft with a spiral-toothed 1.5 mm flute I milled the parts from 6.3 mm beech plywood. 5 mm beech rods made the axles, vinyl washers improve the tire movement.
In order to get the tires nice and round I screwed in a m5 bolt and mount it on a drill. Like on a lathe I sanded the surface and rounded the edges.
A laser cutter might be a good alternative tool to create smaller versions.
