This project will require some assembly skill, patience and a little solder. (and I haven't written a manual, but it's on the way)
I have done my best to create an item that can be assembled using common things like paper clips etc, but you will still need a couple of solder joins.
The parts you will need to obtain are shown in the attached images, and can be obtained from Jaycar dealers in Australia, or direct from china Via Ebay.
UPDATE: found a supplier that will sell these for about a buck:
(you will want the 4 Watt model that's 30mm diameter)http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pcs-lot-free-shipping-1W-3W-4W-6W-G4-LED-5050-SMD-360-Degree-White-Car/32236326076.html
The LED module has polarity correction, and a built-in regulator to make the best of the power as the volts drop, and is very easy to wire up. (pay attention to the alignment of the batteries, this is very important - if you are unsure google "series battery". all 8 batteries must connect + to -, except for the first and last cell, that go to the led - Via the switch. (1.5v X 8 = 12v)
Switches are not full of witchcraft, they just open and close two metal points. in this case the centre pin is common, and toggles between both sides.
you want a SPST (single pole single throw) with a 6mm neck and body depth of 13mm
I used a combination of 3mm screws, varying from 10mm, 12mm, and 30mm - all in stainless.
No I have not yet had time to invent a tailcap or assembly tutorial, but feel free to leave me comments and ask questions until I do.
(UPDATE: Tail Cap added!)
current fix to cover exposed terminals on the base is to print a second tailcap and screw both on.
Future mods will include a base with exposed terminals to facilitate a charging dock, but not in this version.
I'll add any extra mods as I go, like a pistol grip attachment that I have been considering.
requests welcome.
Lastly - it's not "sodder" it's "solder" in Australia we speak the Queens English...
CAUTION!!!
I'm serious, even AAA batteries can start a fire or cause you issues you didn't think of, get educated or be damn careful!
And I am not liable for your mistakes!
