Garden consevatory chair design

The garden / conservatory chair design, started out with the idea to combine a parasol and a tablet pc into an octagonal garden deck chair.

After some sketching, this design started to mutate into something much more elegant.

This design was inspired by my love and passion of Chinese ethnic artifacts, I melded three iconic designs to create a unique outdoor all weather chair.

The first shape was found in the elegant Chinese parasol, I have several in my collection and the one that jumped out was octagonal in shape, when turned upside down it forms a perfect seat.

The second shape came from the humble and most iconic rocking chair design especially the slatted form and the shape of the back.
The third and final shape was sourced from the perfect blown wine glass.

So we now have the basic components all that’s left is to decide on the functionality, setting and materials for the chair.

FUNCTIONALITY
1) Integrated light on main stem.
2) A telescopic footrest integrated into main stem.
3) Soft padded arms for comfort.

AESTHETICS / SETTING / MATERIALS
1) Carved slatted back rest and seat.
2) All weather finish.
3) Octagonal frame and back seaports in polished mahogany.
4) Seat, back and foot rest slats are varnished rosewood.
5) All chair components are held together with varnished rosewood dowels.
6) Seat, back rest and foot rest slats are inlayed with varnished American beech.
7) Arms inlayed with red leather.
8) Seat-stem support in deep red mat stainless steel.
9) Laminated glass dome.
10) Stem, satin stainless steel finish.
11) Stem spacer-foot rest boss, polished stainless steel with a decorative polished gold spiral.
12) Base, satin finished stainless steel or aluminum to save weight.
13) Foot rest frame, red polished stainless steel or aluminum to save weight.
