This is a modification of the tension discs produced by BESISTA® International, a company based in Germany that produces tension and compression rod systems. This particular disc is used as a structural member in different civil engineering applications. The disc has been used in the construction of many iconic buildings in and around Germany. Some examples include the Rathaus Galerie in Essen, Germany; the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany; and numerous office buildings like the PwC Parkside in Zurich, Switzerland. Finite element analysis was carried out on both the original and modified designs. The results revealed a marked decrease in the Von-Mises stress for the area around the bolt hole (slot in the modified design) while increasing the load applied by 10%.
