Right-Angle Screwdriver

My name is Stephen Christy and I go to school at Michigan State University. My professor is Katherine Stevenson.

For the Extreme Redesign Challenge, I have redesigned the screwdriver so that it can now screw and unscrew from a right angle. The design uses gears to transmit the rotation that occurs at a 90 degree angle from the screw that is being screwed and/or unscrewed. In the model, I have also included a double-sided screw bit with two different heads for different screws.

This screwdriver will help reach screws that are difficult to reach with a standard screwdriver today. A typical screwdriver is not convenient for small spaces because the center axis of the screwdriver must align with the center axis of the screw. As a result, consumers are required to buy small screwdrivers, and sometimes those are still too long to fit in smaller areas.

The Right-Angle Screwdriver will eliminate those problems, while still being applicable to the majority of other screwdriver uses.

Please see the PDF entitled "Stephen Christy Extreme Redesign Screwdriver" for more details about the Right-Angle Screw-driver.
