Introduction
Last week I saw some Grabcad models named NASA clamp, but only this afternoon I found out about the challenge. This is my first try, costing 3 hours from reading till model.

Technical details
First design goal is to get maximum clamping security. Therefore I wanted a lot of material grabbing around the oval tube. The next goal was to prevent creep, so I made the closure closing itself totally around the tube. Another important feature of 3D printed objects is to obtain a forgiveness to dimensional tolerances. That is why there is the possibility in my design to incorporate enough clamping stroke in the over-centering handle.
Finally I wanted the mechanism to stay together as one piece and that the user is able to clamp it with one hand. That's why I added lips to grab the two handles.
As prescribed, the rail part is separately bolted on, using metal bolts and nstandard nuts.

Improvements needed
Quickly after the design phase I printed the model, just to get a feel of the order of magnitude of the parts and detail. It turned out the parts were generally as sturdy as expected, but the over-centering was not designed perfectly. Also the large 'ears' bend out too much. Over all I believe the mechanism to have potential to work under the demanded conditions.

Printing
The parts can be nested and probably will be able to print in one go within the prescribed volume.
Due to the bold shapes and lack of small details prints are easy and not requiring much attention.
