Improvement Counter System

A good goal keeping program will usually include three components: Tracking Progress, Statement, and Accountability. Including those three things in my goals has helped my success in beating some bad habits over the years.
The Improvement Counter System encourages accountability, it tracks progress, and puts your statement in clear terms.

Step 1: Decide what your goal is. This system works best with something that can be broken down into small and distinct victories. Examples for beating bad habits could be going the day without smoking, a day without eating junk food, a day without television, or going an hour without checking Facebook. Examples for good habits could be going to the gym, doing dishes for your wife, or reading a book. These can be easily tracked by the Improvement Counter.

Step 2: Personalize the design to apply to you and your goal, and have it made. For example, it could read "I, Scott Rodgers, wish to make the world a better place by designing and uploading something useful to GrabCAD each day". This is your statement, your plan, your objective. Since the system is 3D printed, it can be 100% personalized to your specific goal.

Step 3: Once you get it assembled, get your friends, family, and/or coworkers together and unveil your Improvement Counter System to them. Let them know you have a goal, explain how it's important to you, and ask for their support. Place the Improvement Counter out in the open where they can easily see it. This is where Accountability becomes a huge boost to your success.

The Routine: Keep a "Key to Success" with you at all times. Stick it on your keychain, put it on a chain and wear it around your neck, or somewhere it will be a constant reminder. Also get some spares and place them where they will help you remember and stick to your goal(s).

At the end of the day, you use your key to advance one of counters. If you met the criteria for a victory, Hooray, you turn the Success counter! If you fell short, well, you advance the other counter, and plan on doing better the next day.

It also helps to keep your friends, family, and/or coworkers in the loop. They'll be a huge help in meeting your goal.

Disclaimer: This design is only 85% complete. I only started it a short while ago because I wasn't seeing any entries that represented what I thought would be Good Solutions for New Years Resolutions (but there have been some good contenders show up in the 11th hour). The concept is good, the design layout is sound, but I ran out of time before I could give it the TLC to make sure everything assembles and lines up properly.

I used Solid Edge Design1 ST7, so it might not open up properly with other versions of Solid Edge. Did all the design work was done on a Surface Pro 3. Rendering was done with KeyShot 5.
