A visual model, which shows the view orientations and axes directions for 3D-models.

The dimensions:
datum planes: squares of 50 mm
length, measured over the arrow tips: approx. 85.25 mm

A notice for PTC-users: the 3D-model has "saved views" with following definition:
frt = front = vorne
bac = back = hinten
top = top = oben
bot = bottom = unten
sdr = side from right = rechts
sdl = side from left = links

A recommended syntax for the datum planes, which overstretches each of the 6 views:
[x-y] = front
-[x-y] = back
[x-z] = top
-[x-z] = bottom
[y-z] = side from right
-[y-z] = side from left

For rotating about the axes the "right hand rule" is a big help.
The thumb points in direction of the arrow tip of the axis, and your fingertips point in the mathematically positive rotating direction (counterclockwise direction).

Personally I prefer the "frt"-orientation of the 3D-model as the same orientation with the perpendicular view on the drawing sheet, which is hanging on a wall.

I hope, that this model can show in an understanding way the view orientations and axes definitions for 3D-models. Espacially for newcomers, they want get starting of 3D-modeling, could it be a little help.

Thank you for the attention of a little excursion, for defining a possible origin model, before starting in the world of 3D-modeling.

Animation(s) and/ or suggestions for improvement of this model are always very welcome here.

P.S.:
The uploaded (.xls)-file can be used for printing out in 2D, cut out with scissors and fold it to a glued paper model (may be a puzzle work and/ or a challenge).

Designations in the (.xls)-file:
V = Vorne = Front
H = Hinten = Back
O = Oben = Top
U = Unten = Bottom
R = Rechts = Right
L = Links = Left

The directions of the three axes are also shown on each datum plane.
